A slab break isn’t the first place you would think to go surfing on your SUP, those kind of shallow breaking waves are normally reserved for kamikaze surfers and gnarly bodyboarders. The thought of surfing on a Stand Up Paddleboard just yards from thousands of tons of solid rock didn’t deter Zane Schweitzer though, and he has released an impressive video of him ripping at a secret spot on the Island of Maui.
The video was shot by a drone on Thanksgiving Day and it is this birds-eye perspective that drums home just how close to the slab Zane was actually riding and captures the boils and shallowness perfectly. It also shows how unforgiving the slab is and not a place you would want to be washed onto, tethered to a SUP and clasping a paddle!
As if riding yards from the rocks isn’t hardcore enough, Zane likes to throw in a few air drops and chop hops just to mix it up a bit! You can check out the 4-minute clip filmed and edited by Matty Schweitzer below, let us know what you think and have you ever taken on a slab break on your SUP?
